Description

Size 4 - 6.5 cm
Description
  • A medium-sized frog with flat body
  • Eyes large and rounded
  • Back is grayish-brown with distinctive black spots
  • Granules appear on the back, flank and the legs
  • All digits with large and distinctive adhesive discs
  • With streamlined body and well-developed adhesive discs, this species is highly adapted to living in fast-flowing water


Habitat and Ecology

Habitat

Fast-flowing mountain streams especially with cascading water. Occasionally found inside weep holds of catchwaters.

Activity Nocturnal
Diet Ants and other insects.


Reproduction

Breeding period May to August
Larvae With dark spots; presence of ventral sucker enables the tadpole to attach firmly on the rock surface.
Egg Creamy white. Each female lays 12 - 60 eggs per clutch.

 

Distribution and Conservation

Distribution

Widely distributed in mountain streams of Hong Kong except in Lantau Island. The endemic status of this species is unknown.
