Assessment Methods & Weighting
Attend TWO BIOL 8021 MCB module postgraduate seminars of their choices (please check the School’s Upcoming Events website regularly https://www.biosch.hku.hk/events/). These seminars are usually held on Friday morning at Room 6N-11 of the Kadoorie Biological Sciences Building, during the year. Students should sign and put their name in BLOCK LETTER on the attendance sheet of the seminar room and write a report (with not less than 500 words) to the module coordinator, Professor C B Chan after the seminar. It is the students' responsibility to sign their names at each seminar and inform Professor Chan (chancb@hku.hk) of their attendance (20% weighting). At the end of the project there will be a mini-conference where students will give a seminar (30% weighting) on their research findings. This will be assessed.
A dissertation of 9,000-12,000 words excluding figures and reference list (50% weighting) must be submitted by 1 May 2026 (on or before 17:00). Please submit your dissertation and a completed Project Declaration Form via Moodle. Students have to complete a formal write-up of the project in the style of a leading Journal in their particular research field which their supervisor will select. Seminar presentation and dissertation will be assessed by the course coordinator and a second examiner.
The FYP oral presentation date is tentatively scheduled on 5 May 2026.
