Mr. Freeman Cheung is currently the Regional Managing Director looking after AECOM’s environmental business in the Asia Pacific region. He has more than 20 years of experience in environmental management and acted as project director/manager and environmental specialist for more than 250 projects related to a vast diversity of disciplines in the field of environmental management. Mr. Cheung is one of the very well-known air quality experts in Asia and has led two large scale air quality programmes in the PRD Region investigating the smog and major emissions sources. Mr. Cheung’s past achievement also included: leading the first Green House Gas Emission Control Study; pioneering the development of the Territory-wide Air Quality Modelling System; and directing the first noise mapping exercise in Hong Kong. Other key experience of Mr. Cheung also included: participation in the Strategic Environmental Assessment for the Freight Transport Study, Third Comprehensive Transport Study, Second Railway Development Study, Hong Kong Port 2020 Master Plan Study and North East New Territory Development. He was the lead trainer for the EPD’s EIAO Training and Capacity Building Programme.

Apart from his professional engagement, Mr. Cheung also participates actively in the civil society contributing his professional knowledge to serving the society. He was elected twice the Chairman of the Hong Kong Institute of Environmental Impact Assessment and was the Chairman of Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA) Hong Kong Section. He was appointed to the Air Technical Panel of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and the Principal Area Leader for the upcoming AWMA Annual Conference. Mr. Cheung has been keen in providing training to the young environmental managers. He has been a Guest Lecturer for a MSc Programme of the University of Hong Kong since 2006. He is also a member of Advisory Committee on Environmental Science for the Chinese University of Hong Kong and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
