Freshwater Macroinvertebrates in Hong Kong

Parapoynx spp.

There are 13 species of Parapoynx recorded in China among about 29 species described in the Oriental and Palaearctic regions (Chen, Song & Wu 2006). Parapoynx spp. are common lepidopterans found in stagnant freshwater marshes in Hong Kong. Larvae build portable cases made of leaf fragments. They could be easily disguished by the presence of branched gills and the conspicuous brown rings around the setae against cream yellow head.
