Freshwater Macroinvertebrates in Hong Kong

Eoophyla sp.

Eoophyla is a common lepidopteran species found in clean, fast flowing streams and rivers. The larvae build silken tent-like retreats on rocks or in tunnels reinforced by sand grains and small stones, beneath which they graze algae from rock surface. Body is dorsoventrally flattened with lateral tracheal gills which may arise from cupola. Head is prognathous orientated horizontally, its mouthparts pointed forward.
