Afronurus rubromaculata (synonym: Cinygmina rubromaculata)
General appearance
Body size large up to 8mm long (excluding antennae & cerci)
Body color yellow
brown with dark markings, but big pale mark displayed by a combination of pale portions on terga VIII & IX (shown clearly in late larval stage)
Head
Head flattened with 4 pale distinct spots near anterior margin; a row of 5 smaller pale spots near antennal bases
Epicranial suture pale; two pale spots between eyes

Dorsal surface of femora densely covered with stout and acuminate setae

Abdomen
Conspicuous lateral projections on the posterior abdominal segments
Gills I - VII single broad lamella, but gill I narrower. Fibrilliform portion well-developed, but absent on gill VII
* Gills V & VI with a distinct long projection apically
Cerci longer than body length by 1.5 times; filaments alternately brown & cream with whorls of spines on articulations but without intersegmental setae

Distribution:
In Hong Kong, specimens are recorded from Bride's Pool, Wang Shan Keuk (Tai Po), Tan Shan River, Tai Po Kau Forest Stream, Shing Mun, Chuen Lung, Hok Kau, Lam Tsuen River, Pak Tam Chung, Ho Chung (Sai Chung) and Pui O (Lantau Island).
